I need a what? A Taxonomy?
I recently had lunch with a customer and the topic of “taxonomies” came into the conversation. This customer had only recently been introduced to the term “Taxonomy” and indicated that they weren’t quite sure if they understood what it was.
And no wonder with webinars, white papers and blogs titled as “If you have OCD you love Taxonomy”, “Waffles and Taxonomies”, “The Squishy Jesus Taxonomy”. Is this a technology, a methodology, religion or food group?
In our industry, you can’t go anywhere without hearing about a Taxonomy. But this customer’s comment made me wonder if this term was actually understood by the average business user or was just one of the latest buzzwords used by industry veterans.
